Important Things to Know Before Choosing a Venue
Moonstone is the only regulatory examination body authorised by the FSCA to conduct the RE1 and Moonstone RE5 exams. Presently (2026), you cannot write your RE5 exam online, and you will have to write your RE5 exam in person at the Moonstone RE exam venue in your area/province across South Africa. Visit Moonstone’s website for RE exam dates and, more importantly, seat availability to write the RE5 exams.
Before looking at the 2026 RE5 exam venues and selecting your RE5 exam venue, keep the following in mind:
- The RE5 exam is written in person at approved Moonstone venues across South Africa
- Seats are limited and can fill up quickly. The booking system is live
- RE5 exam bookings close 11 days before the actual date
- Booking your exam too early often leads to failing the RE5 exam
- The exam fee of R1300 is payable directly to Moonstone
- You should only book once you are properly prepared to write the RE5 exam.
Choosing a nearby venue is important, but preparation for your RE5 exam matters more than where you are going to write the FAIS regulatory examination.

Before You Book Your RE5 Exam
One of the most common mistakes candidates make is booking their RE5 exam before they are ready. This often results in a failed attempt, lost exam fees, and unnecessary delays in starting or continuing a FAIS career.
You should only book your RE5 exam if all of the following are true:
- You are using 2026-aligned RE5 study material
- The RE5 exam cost is R1300, payable when you book
- You understand FAIS concepts, not just memorised definitions
- You can identify what a question is actually testing
- You consistently score 80% or higher in mock exams
- You have reviewed your readiness before booking
If you are unsure about any of the above, the safest next step is to prepare properly before booking.
