Understanding the purpose of the RE5 exam and the RE5 Certificate
RE5 is not a qualification, it is a license for Representatives to offer financial advice or act on behalf of a Financial Service Prover. Because the RE5 is a license, you would not attend a RE5 Course, as it is not accredited, but you would attend a RE5 Workshop to help you prepare for the RE5 exam (which you can only write through Moonstone).
Passing the RE5 Examination is a requirement for representatives performing financial services. The RE5 exam is a Level 1 exam and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions that might sound as easy as 1 2 3 but is a far cry from the truth. The RE5 exam is probably the most difficult exam you will ever write in your life.
When you pass the RE5 exam, Moonstone will issue your RE5 Certificate.
The FSCA was established by law (the FAIS Act) to oversee the financial services industry and has mandated Moonstone to conduct the regulatory exams (RE1, RE2, RE3, RE4, and RE5). From the very first date of starting your career in the FAIS industry (known as your Date of First Appointment, or DOFA) you have 2 years to obtain your RE5 Certificate. This requirement forms part of the Fit and Proper requirements for representatives.
Before starting your preparation for the FAIS exam, it is important to ensure that you use the best study material for RE5. A lot of RE5 training providers offer RE5 study guides and other preparation material to study for the RE5 exam, but not all of the material available is updated and comprehensive.
